What is the difference between HTML and SHTML?

Question:

I have observed that there are several pages in Colombia that have the extension .shtml , however I do not know what special function it has, until now I only knew that there was html .

Answer:

Files with a .shtml extension are files that allow the server to know which file should be processed along with Server Side Includes (SSI)

This allows you to have a file and include it through others so as not to duplicate so much code and to do it in a recursive way, it is something more or less like this:

<!--#include virtual="top.shtml" -->

Here ( link in English ) there is more information about it
